Watch Your Statements - Missing SSWU

  • Just received my March 14th Statement today. Since I passed the 45K threshold I was expecting a pair of Special System-Wide Upgrades. When I opened the envelope I found that they inserted a pair of regular System-Wide Upgrades instead.

I checked the statement and found the following paragraph "Congratulations. You've reached the next threshold level and earned yourself AC Upgrades Certificates. Enclosed are Special System-Wide Upgrade Certificates offering you the flexibility to upgrade from even more booking classes."

I called the SE desk and after being placed on hold for what seemed like forever, I was told that they would send out the proper SSWU certs that I had earned.

Is this becoming a regular occurance?

Friday I received a letter from Aeroplan with the two proper SSWU certs that I had earned. :)

A little under three weeks, not too bad I guess, but I would have been steamed if I missed an upgrade because I didn't have the right certs.

The moral of the story, check your statements and enclosed certs very carefully and don't be afraid to call if you've been shorted.

  • I had the same experience. I received the same statement with the wrong certificates in it. I e-mailed them and asked for the correct certificates and offered to send back the wrong ones. They replied asking me to mail in the wrong ones and enclose the e-mail correspondence. I've done that, about two weeks ago, and I'm still waiting for the correct certificates to arrive.

I wonder how widespread this is. I understand the odd mistake. But if its widesprerad it just again demonstrates managment haven't provided staff the correct training and their commitnment to follow through on real customer service is less than stellar. AC and AP are great at promotional hype...less than great at delivery.

  • Did they ask you to mail in the reg. system wide certs that were sent by mistakes?

Not yet, but I'm hanging on to them until I get my replacement SSWU certs.

  • Same here, statement indicated SSWU, however, statement contained SWU.

mpc1, just curious, but what day this year did you surpass 45K?

  • Good for you mpc1..... Glad they didn't insist upon you sending them in first... or you would have possibly been out both reg and sswu's....

  • Did they ask you to mail in the reg. system wide certs that were sent by mistakes?

  • same thing happened to me... no sign of them yet...

  • If they do ask you to mail them back, be sure to make them pay for postage even if it's $0.51. It's pathetic for them to ask you to go through the trouble of mailing it back when they are the one that made the mistake.

My March statement should contain the SSWUs as well along with the MLL & Arrivals passes for crossing 60K. Looks like I shouldn't be expecting the SSWUs based on the numerous reports of people not getting it.

  • Is this becoming a regular occurance? It seems to be.

I'm guessing that not everyone in Aeroplan yet understands there are now two different types of upgrades.

I passed 45K on Feb 22nd and am now just over 58K. I've got another 14K already booked. Plus I've also done 9 non-status non-*A flight segments too.

One Mileage Run, one holiday, the rest has been business.
