Yikes--$100 in taxes..?
Since SYD to AKL is international (I guess)--who all flies the route besides Qantas, Air NZ and I guess from the info above LAN?

If there are 2 of you, NZ currently has a companion fare deal AU$493 first pax & AU$315 for second - tax incl.
Can get cheaper on Freedom Air (to Hamilton rather than Auckland) for around AU$270 - tax incl.
At the moment LAN Chile has very cheap fares available through their website at www.lan.com , prices including all taxes come to US$221.31 - converts across to about AU$305 all up. For Qantas or AirNZ you're looking closer to AU$400 for return flights, including all taxes. There's also cheap flights on a number of other airlines, check out www.travel.com.au or www.zuji.com.au with the dates you're looking for and see what options fit for your planned itenary.
Thanks - although a little too late for me.

Over NZD$100 (or AUD$100 for that matter) in taxes & surcharges.
SYD-AKL is operated by Air NZ, Qantas, Emirates, Thai, Lan, Aerolineas Argentinas.
Other trans-tasman (but not that particular route) include Freedom Air, Pacific Blue (Virgin Blue), Royal Brunei, Garuda Indonesia, Malaysia Airlines(?).
Plus a number of codeshares for those connecting to/from further afield.
