Reminder: Travelling to/through US requires fingerprint & eye scan from 1 Oct 04

  • NZ Herald article (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3595480&thesection=news&thesubsection=general)

I presume this doesnt apply to transit pax AKL-LHR vv but does for all other transits at LAX?

  • True - SFO transit isnt as good as going through asia, but surely must be better than LAX!

  • While AKL - SFO - LHR is the shortest route in distance, it still transits in the United States of America.

  • Couldnt agree more. Basically locked away and cannot even access the airside part of the terminal. How can US possibly justify it?

You obviously haven't come across the concept of "USA" before! They don't understand the word "justify". By the way, I won't be travelling to/through the USA again in the foreseeable future. I value my personal freedom.

  • According to this NZ Herald article (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3597193&thesection=news&thesubsection=general&thesecondsubsection=), it does apply to NZ1/2 pax AKL-LHR and vv. :td:

    That's crazy. :td:

  • AC also confirmed it's going to happen to their transit pax SYD-YVR at HNL as well.

Well, that's something to look forward to for tomorrow! :(

(Though what a scan of my bloodshot eyes will tell them, apart from sleep deprivation and excessive airborne alcoholic consumption, I'm not sure!)

  • This is exactly why NZ should fly to Europe through Asia

Is AC going to witness a repeat performance of your AKL SYD flight which was highlighted by excessive alcohol consumption and turbulence. Make sure you have a drink for me and safe travels ^

My guess is that it WILL apply to transit passengers. When I travelled in July we had to clear US immigration even though we were then put straight into the holding pen and not allowed out into the terminal building. The US is so up tight about its homeland security that I think they will take every opportunity to get your info into the system. :td:

LAX and US hassles generally is why I have been going to Europe through Asia. Although now we have SFO option as well that may work out too.

I have experienced going through customs & immigration twice to transfer to onward flight at LAX - even for flights in the same terminal. However I hoped the onward NZ flight would not have this.

If it does, does this put at risk the scheduling for onward leg? Cant recall exactly how long the layover is but from memory (a few years ago) it isnt that long - maybe an hour or so.
