Symbols of the various religions, i.e. the cross for Christianity
Each religion has a 'most used" symbol. I am looking for a
comprehensive list with symbols addded. Is this possible?
Hello - and thanks for an interesting question.
I've found you an illustrated list of what one authoritative website
calls the "twelve classical major world religions".
They say, "These are the religions described most often in surveys of
the subject, and studied in World Religion classes:
Babi and Baha'i faiths
Buddhism
Confucianism
Christianity
Hinduism
Islam
Jainism
Judaism
Shinto
Sikhism
Taoism
Zoroastrianism "
from: "Major Branches of Religions Ranked by Number of Adherents"
http://www.adherents.com/adh_branches.html
All the religions above have a well-known "most used" symbol
associated with them, nicely illustrated in this list:
http://www.omsakthi.org/religions.html
Zoroastrianism also has a "second" symbol - the sacred flame:

There are other, less "classical" belief systems which don't have a
particular "most used" symbol clearly associated with them.
But there is one clear symbol for these two:
Rastafarianism

Wicca (Paganism)

I hope this answer meets your needs. Please don't hesitate to ask if
you have a query, or if any links fail to work. Just ask for
'clarification'.

Having just checked out the websites supplied by the researcher
answering your question, May I point out that the number of Jehovah`s
witnesses worldwide [ that is baptised and qualified to preach door to
door, as is well known] is around 6 million, not 14.8. This figure is
probably the recorded number of baptised Witnesses and interested
other persons who attend the kingdom Halls on the one night each year
that corresponds to the jewish date NISAN 14 to celebrate the death of
Jesus as he requested in the Bible at First Corinthians 11;24. Also,
more pertinent to your question, Jehovah`s Witnesses do not use the
cross as a symbol but believe Jesus was put to death on a torture
stake, a single vertical pole with no cross bar. The mainline faiths
have adopted the cross, which is a carryover symbol from Babylonish
teachings. The hebrew word translated as "cross" is more accurately
translated "stake". [Acts5;30. 10;39 Galations 3;13] Worldwide common
usage of the symbol of the cross does not necessarily make it accurate
or true. Careful translation of the original hebrew is very important.
Hope this clarifies the matter for you.
